Geoff Sawyer

Teaching Artist - Guitar

Biography:

Geoff Sawyer has provided private and classroom music instruction in a variety of contexts for more than 30 years. He specializes in classical guitar, although he has taught and performed other styles, including jazz, rock, folk, etc. Additionally, Geoff teaches piano, bass guitar, and ukulele, and has worked with orchestral or contemporary band musicians in various contexts.

Geoff has studied classical and jazz guitar, as well as piano, voice, choral singing, and composition. He has led contemporary worship bands at his local church, organized and directed the choral ministry, conducted orchestral ensembles, and composed and arranged music in each of those contexts. In 2016, he led a band and chorus in the production of the church’s presentation of Godspell. Additionally,  he has taught at local private schools for younger students, as well as at nearby music stores for students of all ages. Presently he performs as a classical guitarist at weddings and special events, and continues to serve his church as guitarist, choral ensemble director, and worship leader.

Geoff has a B.A. in Music from George Mason University, where he is currently pursuing a master’s degree in Music Composition. He formerly worked as a civilian scientist and systems engineer for the U.S. Army and retired in 2010.
