Dr. Nayoon Choi is an active flutist, teacher, and freelancer in the Northern Virginia and Washington, D.C. areas. Dr. Choi has over fifteen years of experience to teach the flute and piccolo in London, South Korea, and the USA. She teaches various skill levels from beginner to advanced and students of all ages in both private and group lessons. Her students have won various competitions and have continued their studies at the university level. Recently she served as an adjunct professor at George Mason University to teach music fundamentals class and gave a series of performances in Vienna, Austria.
Dr. Choi has given solo recitals throughout Korea, London, and the USA, and toured Spain and the UK as a member of the Meridian Trio for flute, viola, and harp. She has won concerto competitions at George Mason University and Illinois State University, and 2nd prize in the North-London Chamber Festival. Dr. Choi made her solo debut with Masan Youth Symphony Orchestra in South Korea at the age 13. She has performed in numerous masterclasses with Sebastian Bell, Andras Adorjan, Susan Milan, Wissam Boustany, Jeffrey Khaner, and Christina Jennings. Her formal teachers include Young Kim, Susan Milan, Paul Edmund-Davies, Jamie Martin, Wissam Boustany, and Dr. Kimberly Risinger.
Dr. Choi earned a Bachelor of Music degree from the Royal College of Music in London; a Postgraduate Diploma from the Trinity College of Music in London; a Master of Music degree in flute performance from Illinois State University; and a Doctor of Musical Arts degree with a flute performance concentration from George Mason University.
