Dr. Nina Kiken

Biography

Viola/Violin Teaching Artist

Before moving to Washington, D.C. Nina taught in the preparatory program at the Cleveland Institute of Music and at the Cleveland School of the Arts. During the Spring and Fall of 2021, Nina was Assistant Professor of violin and viola at SUNY New Paltz.

Nina regularly performs in various ensembles throughout the D.C. area. Recent festival appearances include the Spoleto Festival USA, Lake George Music Festival, St. Barts Music Festival, and the Aspen Music Festival and School. While living in Cleveland Nina performed with the Canton Symphony, the Cleveland Pops Orchestra, the Firelands Symphony, and the Blue Water Chamber Orchestra. From 2019–2021, Nina was the artist-in-residence at Judson Manor, a senior living community in Cleveland, where she performed regular solo and chamber recitals. During this time Nina served as the president of the Ohio Viola Society. In Chicago, Nina was a member of the Civic Orchestra of Chicago, the training orchestra of the Chicago Symphony.

Nina earned her Bachelor of Music with Roland Vamos at Northwestern University, and her Master of Music and Doctorate of Musical Arts at the Cleveland Institute of Music as a teaching assistant to Lynne Ramsey and Jeffrey Irvine.
