Spring Advanced Actors’ Showcase

Advanced Actors’ Showcase: James and the Giant Peach JR

Overview

James and the Giant Peach, Jr.
Book by Timothy Allen McDonald
Music and Lyrics by Benj Pasek and Justin Paul
Based on the book, “James and the Giant Peach” by Roald Dahl.

Based on one of his most poignantly quirky stories, Roald Dahl’s James and the Giant Peach JR. is a brand new take on this “masterpeach” of a tale.  Featuring a wickedly tuneful score by renowned writing duo, Pasek and Paul, and a witty and charming book, this adventurous musical about courage and self-discovery is destined to be a classic.

When James is sent by his conniving aunts to chop down their old fruit tree, he discovers a magic potion that grows a tremendous peach, which rolls into the ocean and launches a journey of enormous proportions. James befriends a collection of singing insects that ride the giant piece of fruit across the ocean, facing hunger, sharks and plenty of adventure along the way.  This musical features roles for students of all ages and genders.

Our showcase program gives student actors the opportunity to receive top-level training as they work in an ensemble with their peers towards a final performance. The rehearsal process allows students to work with professional directors, actors, educators, and choreographers. This is an intensive, rigorous program, and one that provides actors with pride of ownership as they develop skills as performers and develop confidence in their off-stage lives.

All students registered for this program will be cast in the show and will strengthen their acting, singing, and dancing skills throughout the process. While our Advanced actors work at an accelerated pace and work on more in-depth choreography and characterization, this show includes roles for new and experienced performers. Solos, as well as ensemble singing opportunities, are available. More information and instructions will be emailed to registrants before the start of the program.

Students are expected to attend each rehearsal for the full time listed and attend all performances for their assigned cast.
