2024 Summer Arts at Mason Internships are closed. Summer 2025 Internship information will be available in the Fall.

Mason Community Arts Academy at George Mason University seeks confident, team-oriented, and enthusiastic internship candidates for our vibrant 2024 Summer Arts at Mason programs in Fairfax, Virginia. The Summer Arts at Mason Internship is a paid internship program that is designed to provide college undergraduate, graduate, and rising junior/senior high school students with an exciting opportunity to work in the arts and arts education and learn from industry professionals, while promoting safety and a positive camp culture.

Internship schedules are available weekly throughout the summer. All interns and interns-in-training will be paid a weekly stipend. Compensation varies based on position and experience.

2024 Summer Opportunities

Summer Arts at Mason Collegiate Internship Program – Open to current undergraduate or graduate students. Interns have the option to choose from the following concentrations:

  • Administration – work closely with onsite administrative staff to manage day-to-day activities, support programming needs across all focus areas, and ensure smooth camp operations.
  • Education – work closely with onsite instructional faculty and administrative staff to assist in the classroom, encourage and mentor students, and assist with student supervision and classroom management.
  • Marketing – work closely with administrative staff and the Marketing and Communications Coordinator to assist with promotional materials, graphic design, and media content.

AFYP Theater Education Collegiate Internship Program – Open to current undergraduate or graduate students. Interns will gain experience in a theater classroom and have the opportunity to learn from our faculty of experienced teachers who also work as professional actors, directors, and educators.

Summer Arts at Mason Junior Internship Program (ages 16-18) – Interns will work closely with administrative staff and instructional faculty to observe and assist with classroom activities, encourage and mentor students, and assist with day-to-day camp operations.

Acting for Young People Junior Internship Program (ages 16-18) – Interns will work closely with administrative staff and instructional faculty to observe and assist with classroom activities, encourage and mentor students, and assist with day-to-day camp operations.

Acting for Young People Interns-in-Training (ages 14-15) – Interns will work closely with administrative staff and instructional faculty to observe and assist with classroom activities, encourage and mentor students, and assist with day-to-day camp operations.

Application Review Process

There is limited availability for some positions, so early application is encouraged. All applications must be submitted by Friday, March 1, 2024 for full consideration. Applications will be reviewed on a rolling basis and applicants may be contacted throughout the review process. All decisions will be communicated by Friday, March 22, 2024 at the latest.

Summer 2024 Internships – Collegiate Level

Acting for Young People (AFYP) Theater Education Internships

AFYP Theater Education Interns will gain experience in a theater classroom and have the opportunity to learn from our faculty of experienced teachers who also work as professional actors, directors, and educators. Interns will assist with general camp operations, student supervision and engagement, and help instructors and staff to promote a positive camp atmosphere.

  • Dates*: June 17-21, June 24 – 28, July 1-5 (off 7/4), July 8-12, July 15-19, July 22-26, and/or July 29-Aug 2

Early Childhood Education

Early Childhood Education Interns will gain experience in an early childhood music and visual arts classroom with students ages 4 – 6 and have the opportunity to learn from our faculty of experienced teachers. Interns will assist with general camp operations, student supervision and engagement, and help instructors and staff to promote a positive camp atmosphere. This position would also include some light administrative duties.

Film & Video Education Interns will gain experience in a film & video classroom and have the opportunity to learn from our faculty of experienced teachers from the Mason School of Film and throughout the DMV area. Interns will assist with general camp operations, student supervision and engagement, and help instructors and staff to promote a positive camp atmosphere.

Marketing Internships

Marketing Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the marketing and promotional side of our summer programs from our MCAA marketing coordinator and administrative staff. Marketing Interns will assist with documenting and photographing aspects of our summer programs, creating materials for social media posts, creating designs for social media and other newsletters or send outs, and assist with day-to-day camp activities as needed.

Music Administrative Interns will have the opportunity to learn about the administrative side of our summer music programs from our experienced administrative staff at the Mason Community Arts Academy. Admin Interns will assist with the preparation of camp materials including student rosters, student name tags, and daily schedules; assist with general space maintenance and management; assist with the day-to-day camp operations; manage camp activities from our Music Camp HQ; assist students, parents, faculty, and staff; and help to promote a positive, safe camp experience.
