Overview
Illustrate your favorite Disney, manga, and anime characters or create your very own sci-fi and fantasy creature sidekicks!
Using Adobe Creative Cloud and drawing tablets, students will learn the fundamentals of proportions and facial expressions while using color theory to build backgrounds and interactions that bring their characters to life in George Mason University’s computer lab. Through a series of guided exercises and in-class work time and feedback, students will have all they need to start creating their own characters.
Access to Adobe Creative Cloud and a drawing tablet/stylus is included. Students are required to create a free adobe login to access. More information will be provided before the first day.

Sadie is a part of the Masters of Arts in Teaching program at George Mason University and has worked with the Mason Community Arts Academy both administratively and as a substitute teacher. She began formally teaching in 2020, teaching filmmaking for four consecutive summers at Light House Studio. Sadie has a background in design, digital illustration, and animation, having worked for event companies and as a freelance contract artist for other organizations, filmmakers, engineers, doctors, and environmentalists. Her love of art and science was shaped by her undergraduate degree from VCUarts, her high school environmental sciences academy, and her pre-college programs involving STEM. Drawing is what let Sadie tell short, funny sci-fi and fantasy stories as a kid before she could spell, so watching kids learn to tell their own story and express their own passions fills Sadie with joy.
