Matthew Libby

Matthew Libby is originally from Lewes, Delaware. He prioritizes steady progress and development in a fun and student-centered 1-on-1 lesson environment. He specializes in teaching tenor trombone, bass trombone, tuba, euphonium, and baritone. Mr. Libby received his bachelor’s degree in music education from the University of Delaware and his master’s degree in trombone performance from George Mason University. Mr. Libby is currently an active freelance musician in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area.

Mr. Libby is the bass trombonist of the Brass Band of Northern Virginia, conducted by Dr. Brian Bowman. He also has performed with many professional and community ensembles in the Washington, D.C., Maryland, and Virginia area such as the Metropolitan Jazz Orchestra, the Symphony Orchestra of Northern Virginia, the Capital City Symphony, the Symphony of Heroes, and the Washington Commanders Marching Band. Additionally, he has served as a Graduate Fellow for the Green Machine Pep Band at George Mason University, presented a recital through the Osher Lifelong Learning Institute (OLLI), and has collaborated on combined concerts with choirs such as the Fairfax Choral Society and the Gainesville Community Choir.

Mr. Libby has been involved in a myriad of other professional opportunities. He was formerly a member of the band Hott Toddy’s, where he performed rock, pop, and dance music in public venues. He also was selected to perform with a brass quintet at Carowinds Amusement Park for their 2020 holiday season. He has also been in the pit orchestra for multiple musicals, has contributed to international music scores for movies, and has performed in film score concerts at Capital One Hall.

Mr. Libby is currently teaching Pre-K through 6th grade general music and 6th grade chorus at Dranesville Elementary School in Fairfax County, Virginia.
