Yitong “Jackson” Huang

Biography

Guitar Teaching Artist

Born and raised in Shanghai, China, Yitong (Jackson) Huang is a guitarist, keyboardist, composer, and arranger whose work bridges jazz, commercial music, Christian worship, and global influences. He began playing guitar at 15 and was mostly self-taught at the beginning. In his final year of high school, he studied jazz guitar under Xiongguan Zhang at the Shanghai Conservatory of Music. After graduation, he joined MV Logos Hope, traveling to 17 countries as a volunteer, performing for government officials, organizing concerts, and developing a passion for cultural exchange through music.

Mr. Huang moved to the United States to pursue formal education at Liberty University. There, he studied under the tutelage of Dr. Dwight Spencer, Professor Joseph Henson, and Professor Jon Werking. He also performed extensively in ensembles, combos, and worship bands. 

Mr. Huang’s passion lies in exploring the fusion of jazz and Christian worship. He has performed at venues such as Liberty Baptist Church, Redeemer Presbyterian Church in New York City, and Lynchburg Chinese Christian Church, where he organized a gospel-themed concert with Professor Jon Werking. In 2020, before the COVID-19 pandemic, he led worship for more than 6,000 students at Liberty University’s Vines Center.

Alongside his performance career, Mr. Huang currently serves as Worship Coordinator at Redeeming Grace Church in Fairfax, Virginia, directing a large music team, arranging for diverse ensembles, and teaching music theory and instrumental lessons. His work reflects a commitment to bridging faith, culture, and musical excellence.

Mr. Huang received a Bachelor of Music in Commercial Music: Jazz Studies from Liberty University. He is currently completing his Master of Music in Jazz Studies at George Mason University, studying with leading artists including Shawn Purcell, Jim Carroll, Victor Provost, and John Kocur.
