As we continue to celebrate 10 years of arts experiences for those in our community, we’ve asked one of our Academy families to share about their experiences. Jiening Zhang and Jieming Zhang have taken music lessons and classes with us for over four years now, and their mom Jill shared some of their thoughts about the Academy with us!
Academy: How did you first learn about Mason Community Arts Academy (formerly Potomac Arts Academy)?
Zhang: We heard about Potomac Arts Academy from someone in our neighborhood.
Academy: What different programs have your children participated in here?
Zhang: My son, Jieming, participates in private piano lessons. My daughter, Jiening, started violin in Violin Beginnings class, currently takes private violin lessons, and has also been in a chamber group and the summer program Violin Bootcamp.
Academy: What is one of your favorite experiences that either you or your children have had at the Academy?
Zhang: Our favorite part is that our teachers are very responsible and full of enthusiasm for their classes.
Academy: Why are the arts important to your family?
Zhang: Learning the arts has brought joy and happiness to our family. We enjoy watching our children’s performances, and music always fills up the rooms at home. It inspires creativity, and learning the arts has helped my kids to be self-conscious about what they do and to stay focused on getting the jobs done!
Academy: What is your favorite part about playing music?
Zhang: We love to get lost in our music.
Academy: What do you like the best about taking music lessons at the Academy?
Zhang: Teachers are patient and clear about every point in the music.
Academy: What are some goals for your children’s music lessons?
Zhang: We want to play the right notes at a precise tempo, and also to enjoy the music!
