For actors at any level, this workshop gives an in-depth look at the fundamentals of acting for new students and a refresher for those with previous experience. Students will build and apply these skills to monologues, scenes, and ensemble exercises, culminating in a sharing of work at the final class meeting. Ideal for those who have always wanted to give acting a try, those who’d like to learn more about performing opportunities in the area, and professionals who’d like to brush up on presentation skills.

Lisa Nanni-Messegee is a published playwright (Just So, Mr. Kipling as solo writer, The Value of x, Carol vs. Christmas co-written with her husband Todd, all published by Eldridge Plays and Musicals) and produced screenwriter (Christmas Homecoming – Hallmark Movies & Mysteries, Romantically Speaking – Hallmark Channel and PiXL, both co-written with her husband Todd.) Lisa has consistently worked academically and professionally as a theater director since 1994. Recent credits include Dead Man’s Cell Phone, Proof, Sea of Tranquility and Fierce Creatures (for AFYP.) As an actress, Lisa has worked professionally on stage (Durang/Durang – Marsha, Tamarind Theater and Hollywood Court Theater in Los Angeles) and on camera (Thurston – an award-winning Western Drama for the web – in the recurring role of Jo for three seasons.) Lisa has an M.A. in Acting and an M.F.A. in Directing Theater. She is a senior teaching artist and Resident Playwright for AFYP and is also on the theater faculty of George Mason University.

Ashley Promisel is a graduate student at George Mason University, studying to earn a Master’s Degree in Theater Education. Before joining AFYP, she worked at Wayside Theatre Company as the Resident Lighting Designer and Master Electrician and ran their summer acting programs. She received her BA in Theater Arts: Acting & Technical Design from Christopher Newport University, where she and Molly Donahue founded the Initiative Student Theatre Company to provide TheaterCNU’s growing student community with more theatrical opportunities. Ashley has performed in many productions at Mason (A Midsummer’s Night Dream, the world premiere adaptation of Gogol’s Nose) and CNU (Enchanted April, The Grapes of Wrath) and performed professionally with Footsteps in Time Theatre Company in Manassas, VA.
