Learn Guitar From A Grammy-Recognized Educator

Mason Guitar Professor Glen McCarthy was recognized by the Grammy Foundation as one of the top ten music educators in the United States in 2014. We are so fortunate to have him teaching beginner adult guitar classes for us on Monday evenings. If you want quality guitar instruction, we’ve got it!

Starting on Monday, February 13th, Professor McCarthy will begin another 10-week session of guitar classes for our Spring Semester, including both Level 1 and Level 2. A book will be provided, and students are required to bring their own acoustic guitar, as practice time at home throughout the week is essential to effective music learning.

“So why should you take guitar classes at the Academy? I’d like to think that having me as your teacher would be a major influence in your decision!” says Glen with a mixture of humor and sincerity. “My teaching experience includes instructing elementary school children to senior citizens. I teach privately and in the classroom, and I conduct professional workshops nationwide. In 2014, it was such an honor for me to be recognized by the Grammy Foundation as one of the top ten music educators in the United States (from over 32,000 nominees).”

The adult guitar classes typically have between 4 and 10 participants, which allows for plenty of individual attention, but also feels less intimidating than a private one-on-one lesson can be. Plus, students are able to learn from each other as well.

“My approach is simple: what do you want to play?” explains Mr. McCarthy. “I will do my best to give you the tools to master that song. From strumming chords to playing a finger-style solo, all styles are welcome. The question I have  is – why aren’t you playing guitar?!”

Why not jump in with both feet – or both hands, as the case may be? Learn how to play the guitar from an acclaimed educator in a fun, relaxed atmosphere.
