The finalists in our Spring 2017 Music Competition will present recitals this Sunday, June 11th at Harris Theatre on the Mason Fairfax campus. The event is free and open to the public – join us for an exemplary afternoon of music performed by students of all ages and instruments!

WHEN: Sunday, June 11, 2017 at 12 noon and 2 PM
WHERE: Harris Theatre at Mason in Fairfax  See Map
COST: FREE and open to the public
PARKING: Free parking in Lot K, or $8 in Mason Pond Parking Deck

Our first annual Music Competition, which called for audition video submissions in March/ April, was open to all instruments and ages, from both the Academy and the outside community. The submitted audition videos were then judged by a panel of Mason Music faculty members and area professional artists, who provided valuable feedback to the students.

After over 70 entries, the panel selected about 40 finalists from the 4 Categories (Elementary, Middle School, High School, and Adult Amateur) to perform in the Final Recitals, based on a standard scoring system.

While providing important musicianship critiques for the students and a performance opportunity in a professional theater, the event doubled as a fundraiser for the Academy. The Competition entry fee proceeds will be earmarked for the Academy’s scholarship and community outreach programs.

Thanks to everyone who participated – we hope to see you at the Recitals!
